Me squeamish? Nah!!!

I have witnessed a bunch of bumps, bruises, gashes and burns in my life.

At the age of 5 I was sitting on a chair in the living room and thought "Hmmm, I wonder if I could make my arm swing around like they do on the cartoons." I tried and ended up with an arm out of socket. I walked to my dad with my arm hanging and said, "Dad, it isn't working." So I went to the doc and wore a sling for days and I don't remember it hurting, but from what I hear the arm out of socket is painful.

When I was about 10, I decided I would have fun with my cat and tie a long ribbon around my ankle and run around my house so that she would chase after me...it ended in me running into my step sister who happened to have a fresh HOT cup of tea that spilled all down the left side of my face and chest leaving a 2nd degree burn. Luckily I didn't scar, but it was pretty painful and it took months for it to fully heal. When I wore a shirt that kind of showed the burn, people would ask if it was a birth mark. After that I wore VERY modest shirts...think Nuns.

My Uncle had caught some wild hogs and was fixing them before they went into their pens when one of them got the palm of his hand with its tusks. He came home to grab something before going to the hospital and much to my dismay, showed me the gash that went to his bone...How many people can say they saw their Uncle's bones? :) Gross, I know.

There are many more stories like that from my life, but with all of them I was able to maintain a cool without having to think about it, but for some reason with my kids (and dear hubby), I have to make myself remain calm.

The first time Chad ever got a shot I thought, as well as the nurse, that I was a goner. Gonna be flat on the floor, but somehow I managed to talk myself into being ok. Then there was the time he rode his bike into a mailbox and the corner of it got him about 1/4 of an inch from his eye, right on the side of the bridge of his nose, and he came in all bloodied up. Luckily Tyson was home to take care of that one cause I am rather squeamish when I am pregnant and I was about 9 months along with Heath.

Then there was a time I had to take my husband into the Urgent care because he had a fight with the lid of a can, to which he greatly lost and ended up getting several stitches. Tyson wanted me to see the stitches going in and I thought "Sure. That might be interesting." Then after 2 seconds and feeling rather light headed and turning a little green, the doctor said "I think you need to sit down and put your head between your legs." Now with other people I am fine, but my family....well it takes work for me to be ok.

Isn't it funny how it's more difficult to see other people get hurt?

Just reading that made me feel ill. Nothing was worse to me than seeing my husband's finger caught in our garage door. I had to help pry it out. I FREAKED. I realize that I do not work well under pressure when my family is hurt. Having two boys is going to be rough...maybe I'll need to keep some of those throw up bags from the airplane on hand at all times...???

I'm the same. I could never watch ER or any other medical show. Bless all those nurses and doctors out there!
