Making memories of us...

As a child you don't really realize all the things that make life hard. We are innocent and therefore we see the good in people and in life that is easily lost in adulthood. As I reflect upon my childhood feelings of love and gratitude are aroused despite the hardships my family and I had gone through.

My husband and i met up yesterday on Hughes to watch the homecoming parade and it brought back some pretty fond memories for me as I watched the same twinkle I had when I was a child, sparkle in my own children's eyes. They watched in great anticipation and excitement as the first members of the parade walked our way! They jumped up and down and threw out some cheer moves they knew as well! They cheered the Patriots more than the Patriots cheered for themselves--except when the football players came along--now they were loud and rowdy! :) I only wish I had had my camera, the darn thing broke the night before and we are having to send it in and it'll take a couple of weeks to get back. There were some wonderful Kodak moments that I am sad i had to miss out on, but I had no time yesterday to go and get a disposable camera. So picture this...a little blonde hair, blue eyed kid on his daddy's shoulders and two little girls jumping up and down in excitement next to them waiting for candy and seeing a few teens they knew in the parade! The only thing missing besides Chad was an American flag! :) What a sweet memory I was given yesterday watching my little children be a part of unity. I was able to have a swell of love in my heart as I watched other families gathered together supporting their community and making memories with eachother as well.

Poor Chad had a baseball game and couldn't be there. There is always next year! The girls brought back loads of candy...I think that whatever isn't eaten soon may end up in our trick or treat candy to be handed out :)!

When I was little I was in the parade a few times for Baton twirling and cheerleading and then my senior year for choir. I remember the parades when I was little were AWESOME! It seemed that the streets in town square were sooo packed that you could barely get through the people, if you had to find someone or were trying to leave a little early before traffic hit. There wasn't a place in sight that didn't have flags on the buildings (the American as well as the Texan). I swear we had a parade for just about everything :)! I remember studying hard to remember my routine as i walked the streets. My dad took pics, but I don't have copies of me actually in the parade, but I have one of me right before it started so i am posting in that one.

I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to help my children to grow in their love for their country and hopefully their community :)! I feel privileged that Heavenly Father has given me my childhood, my family and that I have tried to learn and grow from all of the things that I have gone through and continue to go through. I am grateful for these opportunities we are given to reflect on what is most important and to have a glimpse of true charity for my fellow man (and woman) :).

It's great that you are passing that "tradition" on to your kids. It's great to show support! How Fun!!
