My Little Superman

Heath had tubes put into his ears a year ago and just had them taken out 2 months ago and one of his stubborn ear drums will not heal right. After 3 visits in 6-8 weeks and no success in the healing department we all decided surgery was the next best option. SO, today my little Superman is gone from me for a few hours and I can't wait until he gets home so we can snuggle. I love this kid! He brings much laughter and personality into the home!

I had Tyson take him because it has gotten increasingly harder for me, my lap space has decreased a bit and I emotionally have a hard time lately with having to hold him down and hear him scream, while they check his ears. Of course it does have to do with the fact that taking those tubes out HURTS! I remember when I had one of mine taken out because it hadn't fallen out on it's own (I was about 3 or 4) and I bout kicked the doctor in the nose (yes you are awake when they do this)! Of course it would've been a funnier story had my foot actually met with his nose, but I am ok with it now! ;) Heath was cooperative til they took that first tube out and then after that all our visits were interesting. So, Tyson agreed to be the bad guy today.

Heath would be ok going into the doctors office. It was the room he didn't look forward to and was quite outspoken about it... "I don't want a shot in my ears!" or he'd tell the doctor and nurses to "Leave my ears alone!" This morning as he lay in bed with me he said "I don't want gas in my ears!" It gave us a good chuckle! We explained that he'd breathe it through a mask kind of like Darth Vader! Then he was ok! Last week when I informed the other kids that Heath would be having this surgery, they were all sad! Chad talked about how unfair it was they had to mess with his ear, Alyssa cuddled with him more and Bria cried. So, the past few days have been spent talking and praying as a family about it. At least they love him! Sometimes they leave you wondering! ;)

I had ear problems like Heath too. Over 10 surgeries on my left ear drum before the 5th grade. I remember biting one doctor who gave me a shot. Another doctor who was the "bad guy" for digging out the tubes was an old man at the time. He died several months later, due to age-related problems, and I actually was quite happy upon hearing of his death - to my little 5 or 6 year-old self, he was a BAD guy ;-)

Poor little guy! I hope you'll post later today to let us know how the surgery went (or as soon as you have time)!

Bless his heart. I'm so sorry to hear about the ear problems and the healing issues. I hope he's back in your arms by the time you read this!
