Humpty Dumpty...

...had a GREAT fall!

Photobucket

Recently, this little guy was dropped, accidentally by a kid. She was hesitantly taking him to his cage, afraid he might nibble on her, and then he slipped from her fingers. Lets just say that Guinea Pigs definitely don't land on their feet with the same flexible dexterity that cats have. More like a brick.

His leg wouldn't move! We all sort of FREAKED! Especially, when Tyson tried to look at the foot and you heard a pop!

We had them out to play with them. All had gone really well up to that point. The piggies had even warmed up a bit more to Misha (we had to make him lay down and stay or else all heck would have broken loose).

After many heartbroken tears we were all finally able to console our daughter. The kids went to bed about an hour and a half after they usually do because it took that long just to get her to know we still loved her and that we would take him to the vet first thing in the morning. It broke my heart to watch, but in the end we all said a prayer and we all hugged each other a little tighter.

The next morning we went to the vet and sure enough, Oreo, has a break around his hip and has to be confined to a small area for about 4-6 weeks.

We are still not quite sure that all the Kings horses and all the Kings men were able to put Humpty back together again.Only time will tell.

And just because I am sort of a let-me-know-why-things-are-the-way-they-are nerd, I am putting an interesting link to a site here that explains more about the Humpty Dumpty poem and its possible origins.

I feel her pain. Either way, Oreo will be fine! (And if anything does happen, tell her he has joined my little Gingersnap (no joke, that was her name) in guinea pig heaven!)

Poor Oreo! Well, I don't know whether to feel worse for him or the daughter who dropped him. Who knew guinea pigs were so fragile?
